MASARY Studios seeks an individual passionate for new media artworks to apply for a Designer Internship role in Summer 2025.
This role is designed to support the studio’s Design department with weekly and monthly work as it relates to specific projects and internal departmental development. This professional experience is infused with how MASARY collaborates on artworks, events, and storytelling as a media arts collective.
This position will be a temporary, part-time 10 hours / week position with the title of Design Intern. The hired intern will work 1 on 1 with Design Director Caleb Hawkins and other studio members as applicable.
Assist in the iterative development of design studies in 3D with the use of 3D modeling software and parametric design from conceptual design to design detailing.
Collaborate interdepartmentally with the MASARY Tech Dept. and Communications Dept. for specific project development
Develop and refine visual assets for current and past projects for website and publication
Engage in design development that supports the Studio’s work with outside collaborators on large scale public art projects.
Experience envisioning experiential installations and lighting designs.
Has the ability to produce technical and representational drawings with CAD and Adobe software
Experience in 3D architectural modeling and rendering software like Rhino and Vray
Basic understanding of physical assemblies and fabrication techniques from 2D cut files.
Thrives in end to end project environments, and enjoys the early stage creative thinking and concept development stage as much as the execution and installation phases
Demonstrated experience developing and testing new ideas and experimenting with digital design tools
Has experience working with a remote-team
Strong written and spoken communication skills
Ability to read and understand architectural drawings
Excellent listening skills and empathy
Ability to write clearly and concisely
Have their own laptop for use at the studio and at home (all software, access, etc. will be provided).
Efficient time management, file organization, and communication skills
A basic understanding of Google G-Suite.
Be Boston-area based
Have flexibility to shift working hours to accommodate schedule changes and project needs.
Duration: 10hrs/week for 10-12 weeks, beginning in May or June. Schedule is to be determined together during the hiring process.
Compensation: Compensation may be provided as a monthly stipend or school credit (if applicable), to be discussed during the interview process.
Schedule & Workspace: MASARY will provide a workspace and access to the studio. The candidate should provide their own laptop computer. Flexible hybrid schedule developed with the studio team.
