Creative Business Development Internship

Overview

MASARY Studios seeks a sharp, curious, and strategically minded intern to support our “Forward Guard” initiatives—where creative opportunity meets business strategy. If you're interested in how creative studios grow, secure funding, and position themselves in a competitive landscape, this role will give you an inside look at the mechanics of creative business operations.

Leveraging the tools used by MASARY to identify strategic alignments and funding prospects, the intern will build practical experience analyzing industry landscapes, tracking growth opportunities, and developing strategic insights that support the long-term success of a creative studio.

This is a temporary, part-time internship (10 hours/week for three months, May - July 2025). The hired intern will work closely with the Senior Creative Producer & Business Strategist, Nicholas Medvescek, and gain direct experience in creative business development.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Identify and track relevant opportunities for studio growth, including Requests for Proposals (RFPs), grants, exhibitions, awards, and partnerships.

  • Conduct research analyzing industry trends and emerging opportunities in public art and media arts.

  • Maintain internal records related to the studio’s strategic initiatives, past applications, and funding prospects.

  • Assist in organizing creative intelligence and key takeaways that help shape the studio’s long-term planning.

  • Stay up to date on the media arts ecosystem, researching organizations, funders, and curators shaping the field.

Qualifications:

The ideal candidate is analytical, detail-oriented, and eager to learn about how artists and studios operate in public art and media arts markets. You should have:

  • A strong interest in creative business development, grant writing, or public art opportunities.

  • A knack for researching, synthesizing information, and tracking deadlines.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

  • The ability to stay organized while managing multiple opportunities and datasets.

  • High digital literacy with the ability to quickly pick up new software and programs.

  • Demonstrated intrinsic motivation and a self-starter’s attitude.

While prior experience in public art, arts administration, or business strategy is a plus, this role is designed for learning and growth. We encourage applicants with a strong curiosity about how creative businesses operate.

Practical Requirements

You should possess:

  • A working knowledge of Google Suite (Docs, Sheets, Drive).

  • Some familiarity with basic database management (ex. filtering, sorting, and organizing information in Excel / Sheets)

  • A personal laptop for work (all necessary software and access will be provided).

  • Flexible availability to adjust working hours as needed to align with project needs.

The role is a hybrid work model with some in-person studio time at our location in Boston, MA. You should have the ability to travel to and from the studio during the internship period for pre-scheduled in-person meetings.

Terms and Compensation

Duration: 10hrs/week for 10-12 weeks, beginning in May or June. Schedule is to be determined together during the hiring process.

Compensation: Compensation may be provided as a monthly stipend or school credit (if applicable), to be discussed during the interview process.

Schedule & Workspace: MASARY will provide a workspace and access to the studio. The candidate should provide their own laptop computer. Flexible hybrid schedule developed with the studio team.
